On February 1st, in celebration of Black History Month, Dailymotion – the second-largest video destination in the world – will be launching its new music franchise Music in Motion with the premiere of Hal Willner’s Freedom Rides Concert: Music of the Civil Rights Movement. A Benefit for the Clinton Foundation, the event honors the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Riders, a mixed-race group of activists who confronted segregation rules on interstate buses in the face of violent opposition throughout the South. On September 15th, 2011 the Highline Ballroom in New York came together to “celebrate some very brave people who went down South at a very critical time in the Civil Rights Movement and put their lives on the line,” says Lenny Kaye. Filmed in high definition and engineered by Pat McCarthy (R.E.M., U2, Madonna), the concert features over 20 unique performances from Lou Reed, Tim Robbins, Geri Allen, Eric Mingus, Tao Seeger, James Carter and more.
